A visitor at Dores Beach in Scotland may have captured the first sighting of the Loch Ness Monster in 2025. The man reported seeing a dark mass moving beneath the water on Jan. 29 and took a photo, according to USA Today and SWNS.
Aimee Todd, marketing manager at the Loch Ness Centre, noted that the water was unusually calm that day, making the sighting particularly striking. “It really shows the wave, and it looks like there is some kind of dark mass under the water pushing it up,” she said.
Nagina Ishaq, the center’s general manager, described the sighting as “captivating” and a reminder that the Loch Ness mystery remains unsolved. Experts, including Alan Mackenna of Loch Ness Exploration, are reviewing the image to determine its authenticity.
While many reported sightings turn out to be seals or boats, the center is preparing for another extensive search for Nessie, known as “The Quest,” in May. Volunteers will monitor the lake from 13 locations for over six hours.
The Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register has documented over 1,000 reports of Nessie since the sixth century, but no definitive proof has emerged. Still, Ishaq emphasized the organization’s commitment to solving the legend once and for all.
