Donnie wandered aimlessly for two days after being abandoned in a New York courtyard, unsure of where to go. The adorable dog knew he had something to prove when he was eventually rescued and brought to the Animal Care Center (ACC) in Brooklyn. Donnie wanted everyone to know that he is a large mushball, despite what his 62-pound frame might lead some to believe.
Some of our largest canines also have the largest, fluffiest puppies! The Dodo was informed by ACC volunteer Manisha Shah. “It’s so adorable and amusing that they don’t realize their size or that most people are undoubtedly afraid of them!”
Initially, Donnie was apprehensive about being in a new location. However, he eventually began to loosen up. In no time, he was greeting everyone who passed by with a smile.
“When he arrived, he was somewhat apprehensive and anxious, which is completely understandable,” Shah said. “However, it feels especially special when a creature like Donny trusts you.”
Shah, who helps manage Boroughbred in Brooklyn, an Instagram account advocating for canines at the Brooklyn Animal Care and Control, created a video about Donnie to assist in his adoption.
The caption of the post reads, “When I began petting this large mushball, he gently stood up and leaned in while showering me with kisses.”
Even though they are friendly and affectionate companions, pit bulls like Donnie have a hard time finding homes. According to TIME, “pitbull” canines typically wait three times as long as other dog breeds to be adopted from shelters.
Donnie is presently adjusting to life in a home while living with a foster mother. Soon enough, this gentle giant will finally find the family he’s been looking for, a family that loves all 62 pounds of him.
