In January we shared the story of Stanley, a Lurcher pup was was– a moment captured on CCTV.

At the time we first reported on his story, the ten-month-old pup was not yet out of the woods. Not only did he have puncure wounds across his body which were consistent with dog fighting, leading officers to believe he was used as bait, but his leg was believed to be too severely damage to save, with amputation a the most likely option.

However, Stanley has come a long way and vets are now hopeful they can save his leg as he keeps recovering.

Emma Yelland, Networking Administrator at , said, “Stanley is doing well and so far it looks like we may have saved his leg which is a huge relief.

“It’s been very touch and go. He was in a bad state when he came into our care and he is still a little way off yet but the change in him from a poorly and scared boy into a very happy, playful dog has been heartening to see.”

RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer (ARO) Brian Milligan, who collected the young Lurcher from the vets, explained that his injuries were thought to be consistent with dog fighting. The RSPCA is still appealing for information on the incident and anyone with further details is asked to contact its appeal line, in strictest confidence, on 0300 123 8018.
