Seth Rogen recently shared a humorous but candid moment from his past regarding his cannabis use while on The Howard Stern Show on March 26, 2025. The 42-year-old actor confessed that he had to take a break from smoking weed during a visit to Singapore in 2011 or 2012 due to the country’s strict drug laws.
Rogen recalled that the government puts a warning in travelers’ passports, stating, “If we find drugs on you, we will execute you.” Laughing, he explained, “They will literally f—— kill you if you smoke in that country.” The actor admitted that he went three days without smoking marijuana, making it the only time in recent years he’s been forced to abstain due to fear of the death penalty for drug offenses in Singapore.
Rogen joked about the anxiety he felt while walking through the airport, unsure if he had accidentally carried a “roach” in his pocket, referencing the severity of the laws surrounding cannabis use in the country. In Singapore, both recreational and medical marijuana use are illegal, and severe penalties, including the death penalty for trafficking, are enforced.
Stern joked that the death penalty is a strong deterrent, to which Rogen quipped, “If you ever have a drug problem, go to Singapore.” He also mentioned that despite the cannabis hiatus, he didn’t experience withdrawal symptoms, jokingly adding that it was easy to substitute with other substances like alcohol, which Singapore doesn’t seem to care about.

Rogen also touched on why some people continue to buy weed illegally in legalized areas, explaining that it’s due to a sense of loyalty to their dealers, who may struggle financially after losing their regular income.
The actor, who is known for his cannabis brand Houseplant, reflected on his own experiences of buying marijuana, even from “sketchy” sources, before the product became widely available in legal stores. Eventually, he learned that even his dealer was sourcing weed legally, sharing the funny moment when he accidentally revealed this to Rogen.
