Owner Joanna Nicol, 42, from Kettering, Northants, even made the decision to call her five-year-old Shih Tzu ‘Boris’ after the Prime Minister because she believes the pair are so alike.
The blonde pup even lives up to his name thanks to his personality, with Joanna describing him as a “grumpy old man”.
Mum-of-one Joanna said: “When we went to view him as a puppy, we noticed this overwhelming head of blonde hair, so we decided to call him Boris from the get-go before Boris Johnson was even Prime Minister.”
Joanna continued: “Boris is very unfriendly with other dogs so as soon as we call his name in the park, people start laughing and find his name hilarious.
“His personality even matches Boris’!”
Joanna has to get Boris groomed every seven weeks because his fur is “uncontrollable” and his fringe “naturally falls that way”.
“We never would have named him Boris if we had thought he would become Prime Minister and we definitely get some looks when we call his name!” she said.
“We’re not huge fans ourselves but it’s funny to people.”
Boris also lives alongside two kittens and another dog called Barney, despite refusing to get on with other pups.
Joanna, who works as a nurse, added: “Boris really is a grumpy old man. He’s really good with humans and loves children but can’t stand other dogs.
“He’s very obedient though and hates doing anything wrong.”

Natasha Matson, 24, from Lincoln, often gets asked by passers-by if her dog is actually a dog.
She said: “People can’t believe how much he looks like a human. It’s hilarious.
He regularly pulls human-like expressions, using his big green eyes, it actually looks like he’s smiling at me or purposefully posing for a picture.
“The way that Winston lays on the sofa is funny too because it just looks like a person is sitting on the couch with us.”
