Ukraine’s Ambassador: US is ‘Destroying’ World Order Amid Tensions with Kyiv

Ukraine's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, speaks in London on February 24.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, has issued a stark warning, stating that the United States is actively dismantling the current world order. His comments come at a critical time, as Ukraine attempts to mend ties with Washington following a disastrous White House meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and former US President Donald Trump.

Zaluzhnyi, who previously served as Ukraine’s top military commander before his dismissal last year, has since transitioned into a diplomatic role and is seen as a potential presidential candidate. Speaking at Chatham House in London on Thursday, he cautioned against US efforts to seek compromise with Russia, arguing that such moves could have severe consequences for global stability.

“It’s not just Russia and the so-called ‘axis of evil’ attempting to reshape the world order—the US is now playing a role in its destruction,” Zaluzhnyi stated. He criticized Washington’s recent actions, claiming that the US has undermined Western unity by sidelining Ukraine and Europe in its negotiations with Russia.

In the wake of a heated exchange in Washington, the US has halted military aid to Ukraine and suspended intelligence-sharing, heightening concerns in Kyiv that Trump’s administration is shifting closer to Russia. Zaluzhnyi warned that by delegating security matters to Europe and stepping back from NATO commitments, the US is jeopardizing the alliance’s future.

“If this trend continues, NATO itself could cease to exist in the near future,” he said.

His remarks come as European nations scramble to strengthen their defenses amid growing uncertainty over US support. Ukraine’s European allies have rallied behind Zelensky, especially after the Oval Office confrontation resulted in his abrupt dismissal from the White House.

In an effort to de-escalate tensions, Zelensky later acknowledged that the meeting “did not go as expected” and described the situation as “regrettable.” He emphasized that Ukraine remains open to negotiations to end the ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile, European leaders convened for an emergency summit in Brussels on Thursday, reaffirming their commitment to Ukraine while seeking a more active role in diplomatic discussions about the war.
